(ATR) Gerhard Heiberg, the IOC member from Norway who oversees the hunt for worldwide Olympic sponsors, is also involved in the discussion about changes to the worldwide sponsorship program after 2020.

Heiberg and colleagues are studying the best way to move forward with the unique program that dates back to the 1980s.

With the end of Acer’s sponsorship this year, the IOC heads into the Sochi Olympics without a computer hardware sponsor for the first time in 10 years. The changing technology sector is one of the factors that is being considered as the IOC reviews the TOP program.

Heiberg, 73, is expected to be a source of guidance for organizers of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer; he was president of the 1994 Winter Olympics. And his previous experience in Lillehammer is also expected to be an asset as Norway takes steps to bid for a 2022 Winter Games, this time in Oslo.
