Glasgow 2014's first formal inspection starts

The Organising Committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and its Games Partners have been joined by delegates from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) for a four day intensive inspection of progress in all aspects of its preparations for the Games including venues, the Athletes' Village, Transport, Security and Safety and Workforce Planning.

The Co-ordination Commission, the five member panel conducting the inspection, is chaired by Bruce Robertson, CGF Vice President and Canadian CGA member, and is supported by a panel of technical advisors. This is the first inspection in a series of six with just over 1,000 days to go until the Games.

With 70% of the venues being used for the Games already in existence, the delegates will be going on a tour of venues including the National Indoor Sports Arena, Velodrome, and Athletes' Village.

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg said:

"We are delighted to be welcoming the Commonwealth Games Federation's Co-ordination Commission to Glasgow, on what we hope will be an interesting few days for them as we give detailed reports on our progress.

Bruce Robertson, chair of the Coordination Commission said:

"My colleagues and I are delighted to be working in Glasgow over the next week. We’re all looking forward to a very useful and productive series of meetings and detailed briefings. Our objective is to review the progress Glasgow 2014 is making and support the Chief Executive and his team in the tasks they have ahead of them."

Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, said:

"I am sure Glasgow will offer a warm welcome to our guests from the Commonwealth Games Federation, and that they will have an informative and enjoyable time in Scotland. I feel confident they will note the excellent progress being made in the delivery of venues and facilities for the Games."

Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison said:

"Glasgow 2014 is no longer a distant prospect, the venues and infrastructure are rising from the ground in Glasgow and all across Scotland people are getting involved and feeling the excitement that the Games will bring.

"Glasgow and Scotland are proud to be hosting the Commonwealth Games and I welcome the CGF members on their first ever visit to the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee.

"With little more than 1,000 days to go before the start of the Games, this inspection is a welcome opportunity to show the delegates the excellent progress that has been made to date and that planning remains very much on time and on budget."

They are tasked with evaluating all aspects of our progress to ensure Glasgow 2014 are on track and on budget to deliver a successful Commonwealth Games. It is the main vehicle through which the CGF monitors and reports on progress in Games preparations.
