(ATR) The Scottish government rules the 2014 Commonwealth Games a financial success.
A report from the Scotland Auditor General and Accounts Commission this week states that the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games were delivered under budget at $796.4 million.
According to the report, the Games were initially expected to cost $848.3 million, but sponsorship deals and the sale of 1.2 million tickets helped cut $47.1 million out of the budget. All in all, taxpayers funds contributed towards the Games totaled $626.1 million, roughly $54.8 million less than anticipated.
"The Games have been widely seen as a success and our report adds to this positive picture," accounts commission chairman Douglas Sinclair said of the findings.
"The partner organizations and businesses worked very well together to make the Games a great success."
"As this is a really strong example of successful partnership working it's really important for learning from this project to be shared within the public sector, to help future work," he concluded.
