Geneva Will Host a Sports Summit Partnered by the UN -- Conferences and Conventions

(ATR) Miami Beach is awaiting those interested in next month's SPORTELSummit 2018, a convention for sports decision-makers and other professionals of sports media.

Sportel chief executive Laurent Puons tells Around the Rings the event "is our new invitation only two-day Summit for senior executives to come together and shape the future of the industry".

The dates are May 15-16 and the summit will include, among others, a discussion on the value of media rights of those properties considered second- and third-tier.

That conference will be moderated by Robin Jellis, editor of Sports Business, and will include Frank Leenders, the Director General of Media and Marketing Services at FIBA, and Ralph Straus, commercial director of FEI.

Sportel Monaco

After Miami, Sportel has also a date later in the year in Monaco. It will be between October 22-24 at the Grimaldi Forum. Based on last year's numbers, more than 3,000 people are expected from 1,100 companies from 80 countries.

"For Monaco, it is shaping up to be another great edition. Many of our 2017 exhibitors and sponsors have already confirmed their participation and we have many inquiries from first time investors who want to be a part of the action," Puons tells ATR. "The industry is evolving faster than ever before because of technology and competition, which is being reflected by the growth of SPORTELMonaco."

International Sports Chamber of Commerce

The New York Chapter of the International Sports Chamber of Commerce will hold its next event on June 7. The conference on Sports Digital and Sustainable Development Goals will include Rael Enteen, director of Digital at the New York Jets, and Adam Fraser, director of Global Development at Laureus.The location of the conference is in the Olympic Tower building at 645 Fifth Avenue in New York.

Smart Cities and Sport Summit

The fifth edition of the Smart Cities and Sport Summit will take place from October 29-31 in Lausanne, the Olympic Capital.The Summit is a unique conference targeting representatives of cities and regions across the world willing to develop smart strategies that connect sport and cities.This is an exclusive opportunity to learn from industry experts, share best practices and connect with the international sports world.

In 2018, the Smart Cities and Sport Summit will feature a brand-new format in order to foster interaction among participants and enhance the dynamic throughout the conference.Cities will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses, take part in debates, ask questions during interviews, and much more.Smart Cities & Sport is an initiative of the World Union of Olympic Cities, an association of former and future Olympic host cities supported by the International Olympic Committee.

AIPS will hold its Congress in Brussels (AIPS)The 81st AIPS Congress will be held from May 7-10 in Brussels, Belgium.The Congress will be hosted by AIPS in conjunction with Sportspress Belgium and will cover a wide range of topics relevant to sports journalism and its professionals worldwide.All AIPS Congress participants are asked to register. Registration can be completed without the exact flight details. Registration will close on April 16.

The Sports Business Daily/Journal will have its award ceremony on May 23 in New York .The event will be at the Marriott Marquis hotel at Times Square and will include sports athletes, business legends and a plethora of talent to celebrate the best in the field.More details to be announced in the next few weeks.

"The Telegraph" Conference

On May 11Great Britain’s "The Telegraph" newspaper will hold its conference on the Business of Sport. Among other topics, the participants will learn how traditional broadcasters are competing with OTT rivals and the knock-on effects for rightsholders and brands engaging with fans.There will be an audience of approximately 250 senior sports professionals while the list of speakers include:• Eddie Hearn, promoter of boxing mega-star, Anthony Joshua MBE• Clare Balding CBE• Ben Morel, Managing Director, NBA• Emma Isaac, Brand Director, RBS• Theo Luke, Director, Sports Partnerships EMEA, Twitter• Stephen Lyle, Commissioning Editor, Sport, Channel 4.The Telegraph will celebrate this conference from 8am to 5pm at the BT Center, in London.

"Host City" Conference

UNHRC and UNICEF will partner with the International Sports Convention to produce a summit dedicated to show how the power of Sport can help achieve an end to poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. The event will be in Geneva, Switzerland on December 5-6.
