GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli marked the United Nations (UN) World Children’s Day by calling on the global sports community to champion the values of inclusivity, equality and respect so that the world’s youth can freely and safely participate in sport as part of a healthy lifestyle.

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. The United Through Sports (UTS) World Virtual Youth Festival 2020 serves as an important opportunity for the global sports community to celebrate World Children’s Day through the unifying power of sport.

Addressing the youth of the world, International Sports Federations and distinguished members of the Olympic Movement at the Opening Ceremony of the festival, President Chiulli also underlined how GAISF will continue to assist sport in its efforts to foster more inclusive and peaceful societies.

President Chiulli said:

"It is an honour and pleasure to be part of the United Through Sports World Virtual Youth Festival 2020. What began as a simple but powerful idea in 2017 has since evolved into an intricate part of GAISF and SportAccord. Now, over 70 of GAISF’s Members are actively involved in this incredible initiative, showcasing their commitment to changing the lives of youth by harnessing the power of sport.

"During this global pandemic, GAISF has continued to work tirelessly in support of the global sports community. Because, as the united voice of sports, GAISF will always assist sport in its efforts to better society, build bridges and bring communities together.

"But still the world of sport can and must do more. We must champion the values of inclusivity, equality and respect so that the world’s youth have the freedom to safely participate in sport as part of a healthy lifestyle."
