Four Seasons opens in Baku, 8th new five-star hotel in 12 months

The opening of the luxurious new Four Seasons Hotel on Baku’s waterfront promenade – the eighth five-star hotel to open in the city in just 12 months – demonstrates that the Azerbaijani capital is fast becoming a world-class destination, says 2020 Bid CEO Konul Nurullayeva.

Nurullayeva said: "The opening of the Four Seasons in Baku, together with the other seven five-star hotel chains that have opened their doors here in the past 12 months, is a clear vote of confidence in Azerbaijan’s potential from the world’s very top tourism brands. This is also a great boost to our 2020 Bid, as it backs up many of the ideas and assertions we have put forward in our Applicant File.

Nurullayeva continued: "Blue chip hotel brands like the Four Seasons do not just invest millions of dollars on a whim. They will have looked very closely at what is happening in Baku today and have come to the firm conclusion that the city is fast turning into a world-class destination – for business, for tourism and for sport – and they have decided that they want to be a part of that spectacular transformation.

"Azerbaijan has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. We are transforming our country, building a knowledge-based economy, focusing on education, sport, science and technology. And it is this transformation that is the driving force behind our Bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.

"We have come a very long way as a nation in the 20 years since our country’s independence. If we realise our cherished dream of hosting the 2020 Games, we believe that, with the Olympic Movement at our side, together we can take our next great leap forward as a country."

The new Four Seasons, which will receive its first guests next month, boasts 171 high-tech guest rooms – including 29 suites – almost all with balcony and views of the city or sea. It also has a seventh floor swimming pool, set underneath a glass atrium, as well as more than 1,800 m2 of function space, including a Grand Ballroom and a Banquet Room.

Its location is in the centre of the Baku 2020 Games Plan’s ‘Waterfront Cluster’, as well as being just minutes away from the city’s main shopping area – and still just 35 minutes from the airport.
