(ATR)The International Rugby Board kicks off the 2014-2015 Sevens World Series on Oct. 11.For the first time, the series will double as a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
This marks the 16th edition of the Sevens World Series.
Countries hosting legs of competition for the series include: Australia, Dubai, England, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, and the United States.
American Continental Shooting Championships
The International Shooting Sport Federation is staging the 2014 American Continental Championships Oct. 11-20 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The championships serve as a qualifying event for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
ICSS in London
The International Center for Sport Security (ICSS) is hosting its "Securing Sport" conference Oct. 6 through Oct. 7 at the Lancaster House in London.
The event has gathered what the ICSS says is a group of "high-level leaders and international experts from sport, betting, government, international organizations, civil society, law enforcement and anti‐corruption bodies."During the conference, attendees will debate issues related to sport integrity including: organized crime, match-fixing, terrorism, governance and transparency and child welfare in sport.

50th anniversary of 1964 Olympics
On Oct. 10, Tokyo 2020 and the Japanese Olympic Committee will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Summer Olympic Games.
During the celebration, which will take place at theTokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry,ATRhas learnedTokyo 2020 will reveal its refined vision for the Summer Games.
Glasgow Games Debrief
The Commonwealth Games Federation will compete its debrief on the 2014 Glasgow Games Oct. 6-10.
Members from the Glasgow 2014 organizing committee will transfer knowledge and information to organizers from Australia's Gold Coast, which is hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
IPC in Berlin
The International Paralympic Committee Governing Board will meet in Berlin on Oct. 7 to begin finalizing the sports program for the 2020 Paralympic Games.
Twenty-four sports submitted applications for the 2020 Paralympics, including two new sports--para-badminton and para-taekwondo. A maximum of 23 sports can be included in the 2020 Paralympic program.
The IPC Governing Board will review all applications during this week's meeting. Sports that are not selected on Tuesday will be asked to present additional information to the Governing Board.
SportelMonaco 25th anniversary
SportelMonaco, an annual sports broadcasting trade show, takes place Oct. 7-10.
This marks SportelMonaco's 25th anniversary.
World Rowing Masters Regatta
Ballarat, Australia is staging the 2014 Word Rowing Masters Regatta Oct. 9-12.
The regatta will take place at Lake Wendouree, the site where rowing events took place during the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Ballarat is approximately 70 miles west of Melbourne.
Sochi Autodrom Hosts Formula 1 Race
The sixteenth race of the 2014 Formula One season will take place on Oct. 12 at the Sochi Autodrom--the first event hosted at this venue since the 2014 Winter Olympics.
This marks the first Russian Grand Prix to be held in 100 years.
World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships are underway in Nanning, China.The event, which ends Oct. 13, marks the fourth time a country in Asia has hosted theevent.
The International Gymnastics Federation staged its first World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 1903.
FIVB Women's World Championships
The International Volleyball Federation concludes the 2014 Women's Volleyball World Championships in Italy, on Oct. 12.
Bari, Milan, Modena, Rome, Trieste, and Verona have all hosted matches for the tournament. In all, 24 teams will compete at the world championships.
