Maximilian Klein, responsible for International Sport Policy, comments on today's CAS decision on the Russian doping scandal as follows:
"We are disappointed and upset that the sanctions have been watered down so significantly. This does not build trust in the global anti-doping system, which has seen its credibility suffer so much after the Russian doping scandal and the incredible back-and-forth that followed. The goal was to punish the system of state-run doping, not individual athletes. We cannot understand why such significant concessions were made with today's decision. It is now necessary to quickly analyse exactly why it could have come so far. The legal framework of the anti-doping system and the system of international sport arbitration must be effective and waterproof so that state-run doping can be punished rigorously."
