Figure Skating Tops Ticket Sales at Sapporo 2017

Organizers of the Olympic Council of Asia’s 8th Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro have published details of ticket sales for the event, which closed on Sunday, February 26.

The nine days of Sapporo 2017 attracted a total of 79,828 spectators, including crowds for the ice hockey and curling held on February 18 – the day before the opening ceremony at Sapporo Dome.

The total includes 29,000 who attended the sold-out opening ceremony, when His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince opened the 8th AWG in front of a record number of participating National Olympic Committees – 32.

Figure skating sold the most number of tickets – 11,398 over four days of competition at Makomanai Indoor Skating Rink. A ticket for the fourth and final day to see the men’s free skate included the closing ceremony on February 26, when 4,729 spectators attended.

Speed skating at co-host city Obihiro Forest Speed Skating Oval was the next best attended with 10,469 for the four days – a record for the venue.

The third highest, 8,868, was for ice hockey at the main venue of Tsukisamu Gymansium.
