Fight for Peace, the NGO that combines boxing and martial arts with education and personal development to ensure that all young people are able to realise their full potential, has announced a partnership with The Channel of Champions, BoxNation (Sky 437/Virgin 546), the UK’s first and only dedicated subscription boxing channel.
The partnership, which will be officially launched during the Fight for Peace Awards Night on 19th September, will bring together the two organisations in a bid to highlight the social impact that boxing can have on communities affected by crime and violence, whilst bringing boxing to a wider audience. The event will be attended by one of BoxNation’s high profile boxers.
BoxNation’s unique position as the UK’s only dedicated boxing channel will allow the channel to get closely involved with Fight for Peace and help the charity reach boxing fans around the country.
BoxNation will provide an on-air and online outlet for Fight for Peace to give viewers a real insight into what the charity provides including on-air interviews with Fight for Peace staff and Academy members, as well as ways to support Fight for Peace, including the promotion of LUTA clothing - the world’s first ethical sportswear brand that donates 50% of its profits to the charity.
Based in the Borough of Newham, the Fight for Peace London Academy opened in 2007, seven years after the original Fight for Peace Academy was launched in Rio de Janeiro. In 2007, gun and knife crime affected young people in Newham collectively more than anywhere else in London. Since then, more than 3,000 young people have joined the Fight for Peace London Academy and it is now teaching its methodology to a network of community based organisations across the world on how to make similar frontline projects work successfully. By the end of 2015, Fight for Peace will have trained 120 organisations which work in communities affected by gun crime, directly helping 70,000 children and young people around the world.
Luke Dowdney MBE, Founder of Fight for Peace, said:
"We are delighted to be working with an innovative and well-respected boxing channel such as BoxNation. We are very proud of the work that we have carried out to date in London and we see this partnership as a vital step in our progression. We are confident that, with the support of BoxNation and the increased exposure that this will bring, we will continue to grow and provide further help to young people in the UK who need our support."
BoxNation launched in September 2011 and has broadcast a wealth of British and international talent over the past few years including boxing superstar Amir Khan, former WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion and Welsh hero Nathan Cleverly and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Jim McMunn, BoxNation General Manager, said:
"We are delighted to be working with Fight for Peace; its campaign is one which we know will help thousands of young people across the country. Through our partnership we hope to be able to give more young people the opportunity to benefit from the support and training that Fight for Peace can offer."
