Around the Ringsreceived an exclusive tour earlier this month of the new venue in the western suburb of Barra da Tijuca
Construction is still underway for the clubhouse but the greens and fairways are well established and the bunkers look menacing at the links style course. The designer is US architect Gil Hanse.
A million plants are being propagated to return native species to the landscape, replacing invasive plants.
This will be the first course used for golf at the Olympics in over 100 years; 1904 was the last time golf was on the Olympic program. It was added to the 2016 and 2020 Games, but will face a review for future Olympics.
