Everything On Schedule For 2014 Youth Olympic Games; Host Organizers Planning Incredible Games

NANJING, China - The 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games (www.nanjing2014.org) part of the worldwide Olympic movement, is on target to present “incredible” Games during the summer of 2014.

Nanjing 2014 will provide a platform for the youth around the world to have a unique, once-in-a-lifetime learning and sharing experience. Nanjing 2014 activities have been designed around the five themes, “Olympism, Skills Development, Healthy Lifestyle and Well-Being, Social Responsibility and Expression” with the five themes carried out throughout the preparations for and duration of the Games.

A recent Coordination Commission, headed by International Olympic Committee Member Lambis Nikolaou, recently visited the host organizers and was particularly satisfied with the development of the Youth Olympic Village (YOV) as a stand-out project well ahead of schedule. A visit was also made to the YOV site, which is part of a major city development plan that will become a housing facility, school and kindergarten after the Games.

Officials with the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOGOC) have restated its commitment to delivering a ‘green games’ with the integration of solar energy and rainwater harvesting in the village construction.

Several milestones have been achieved as the local organizers transition from the strategic to operational planning phase.

Construction of the Youth Olympic Sports Park, one of the only sport venues to be built from scratch for the Games, began in February 2012. The park will be home to hockey, BMX, rugby and beach volleyball during the Games and afterward be transformed into a community sport facility.

The venue master plan is close to finalization with 26 competition venues confirmed with more than 20 of the 28 International Federations already visited Nanjing.

The 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games (http://www.admail.net/url/1136288/7f374c/) will take place in Nanjing in August 2014 and will bring together more than 3,800 young athletes from more than 200 countries and regions. Following the 28 sports on the Olympic programme, athletes will take part in high level competition and off the field of play will be able to take part in a series of cultural and educational activities.
