FISU and Eurosport announce extensive media coverage for Kazan 2013 at SportAccord
Multi-screen broadcast coverage and unprecedented media exposure will generate a step change for Universiades Eurosport announced at Sport Accord Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia.
FISU Secretary General, Eric Saintrond was speaking alongside the events’ broadcast partner, Eurosport, in a briefing to international media.
Saintrond believes the 27th edition of the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, in July will mark a milestone for its flagship event, for both the host city Kazan, and the volume of live programming that will be generated.
"Eurosport is a platform that will give us huge visibility. There will be 120 hours of live coverage across both Eurosport and Eurosport 2 channels," he said.
"The Universiade in Kazan is a huge project. The Olympic Games in London had about 300 events, but Kazan will have 351 events."
Eurosport’s Global Director of Communications Heather Bowler, said. "This is a real step change for Universiades and FISU. We are very excited to be involved. Taking into consideration the new ways of consuming content we will not only produce television broadcasts, but will have the content accessible for fans to watch on PC, tablets, connected devices and smartphones."
No matter what screens sports fans own, or where they are located, they will be able to access hours of live coverage, results and news around the clock. The multi-screen availability of the coverage also makes the event widely accessible to a young, student audience.
The competition standards in Kazan from the student athletes will also demonstrate the strength and depth of the university sport system.
Heather Bowler added: "The Universiade events are the breeding ground of future Olympians. This is demonstrated by the fact that nearly 20% of medals won at the London 2012 Olympics were by FISU alumni."
Eurosport will broadcast live coverage of eight different sports at the Summer Universiade in Kazan from 6th July to 17th July. It also produces a monthly show dedicated to the world of university sport called CAMPUS which brings to life the trials, tribulations, successes and triumphs of student athletes.
Eurosport will have editorial staff on the ground in Kazan reporting on all the breaking news and sharing interviews with the stars, heroes and story makers of the Universiade.
To complete the live action, the University Sports section on Eurosport.com, Europe's most popular sports news website, will bring the latest news, updates and results in the lead-up to, and during, the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade.
