AMSTERDAM, March 30, 2015 - Some of the greatest European footballers of all time are to play for Laureus All Stars against a team of Real Madrid Legends to raise money for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

The match will take place at FC Utrecht on Saturday, May 2 (18.00hrs kick-off) and the Laureus team includes Dutch international stars, who have played for some of the most successful clubs on the planet.

Former Ajax, AC Milan, Internazionale and Real Madrid midfielder Clarence Seedorf, a board member of Laureus The Netherlands, will be joined by Laureus Ambassador and former Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

Also pulling on the Laureus All Stars jersey will be 1988 European Champion and former PSV and Anderlecht defender Adrie van Tiggelen and Pierre van Hooijdonk, who represented The Netherlands at three major championships, scoring 21 goals.

The inaugural Laureus Charity Match will raise awareness and generate funds to drive forward Laureus Sport for Good projects in The Netherlands over the next 12 months.

HH Prince Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje, Chairman of Laureus The Netherlands, commented: “The Laureus Charity Match is an appealing way to accumulate resources for initiating a new project. Our focus lies on selecting projects that generate social change; projects through which youth can go to school, get a job and a better future in general. We are thankful for the support that we have received from the municipality of Utrecht and FC Utrecht and look forward to launching this impressive event in Utrecht with them.”

Frans van Seumeren, major shareholder of FC Utrecht, also welcomed the announcement: “FC Utrecht initiates and supports projects and events under the name of FC Utrecht Maatschappelijk (FC Utrecht in Society), and also by supporting initiatives such as the Laureus Charity Match; an event that we cherish. The money raised from this match will also support new initiatives for Laureus The Netherlands.”
