Erik van Heijningen announces candidacy for LEN President

Today Erik van Heijningen, President of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB), officially announced his candidacy for the Presidency of LEN (Ligue Européenne de Natation).

Today Erik van Heijningen, President of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB), officially announced his candidacy for the Presidency of LEN (Ligue Européenne de Natation).

Given the strong support from many of sport organisations, including the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation and the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF), Van Heijningen is eager to use his national and international experience to lead European aquatics into a new era.

During his announcement today, Van Heijningen stated "Aquatics in Europe have done well the last years, but the sport landscape is changing and our members are facing more and more challenges. Now more than ever is the time to focus on the future – I am ready to bring a new energy and many new ideas to LEN. Having contributed to Aquatics in many different roles, I know first-hand the global challenges Member Federations of all sizes face.My ideas for LEN are based on three key areas – Progress, Empowerment and Partnerships. And I look forward to sharing my ideas over the coming months with the entire LEN family. Together we can build a stronger LEN! "

André Bolhuis, President of the Dutch Olympic Committee said, "Dutch aquatics has had great success under President Van Heijningen’s leadership and continues to grow even stronger through his and his team’s efforts. As one of the leading and well respected Chairmen in Dutch sport, I have no doubt that he would be a great leader for LEN and would take aquatics to an even higher level globally."

Jan Kossen, General Secretary of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB), continued, "It is not by chance that the KNZB has experienced continued success over the years. President van Heijningen’s commitment to all programmes have been a driving force in helping us achieving the remarkable success. The official launch of Erik Van Heijningen’s campaign marks the three-month countdown to the LEN election congress taking place this May 8, in London, UK.

Eric van Heijningen: is the current president of the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB), Vice president of LEN and FINA Bureau member. The dedicated sport leader has been involved in numerous positions in international aquatics and is committed to its sustained progress and success. Eric van Heijningen, who in his professional capacity is state councillor at the Dutch Council of State Administrative Law division, is married and has three children.
