EOC Ready for European Games Inspection

(ATR) A delegation from the European Olympic Committees begins its second check-up of Minsk 2019 preparationson Wednesday.

Over two days, the coordination commission led by SpyrosCapraloswill cast a forensic eye over preparations for the second edition of the EOC’s multi-sport eventin the Belarusian capital.

EOCpresidentJanezKocijančič,Minsk 2019 CEO GeorgeKatulin andCoCom ChairmanCapralos will open the meeting.Minsk European Gamesorganizers will update EOC officials on all aspects of the Games includingvenue construction, the 22-strong sports program, marketing, broadcasting,ceremonies,transportation, ticketing and security.

On Tuesday,Minsk 2019 officials will meet with EOC technical expertsat the Belarus NOC Headquarters to better understand the remaining challenges over the less than 12 months until the Games open.

EOC delegates willgo on a venue tour of the 12 facilities to be used for the Games on Wednesday. Eleven are existing venues which have been renovated or refurbished for the European Games.

Only the beach soccer venuehas been built from scratch.

Capralos will give the EOC’s verdict on the pace of Minsk 2019 preparations at apress conferencewrapping up the co-com trip on Thursday.

This precedes a visit for the coordination commission to the Belarus International Badminton competition at the Falcon Club, the sixth of 22 test eventsfor the European Games.

At the end of August, Minsk 2019reported successful test events to date, which included abeach soccer test event, the European Judo Open and aMinsk Cup international gymnastics competition.

In total, nine more test events are scheduled for 2018 and another 11 are lined up for 2019.
