Ekaterinburg will be the first Russian city to celebrate the Day of the City as part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad. This year, Ekaterinburg is celebrating its 290th anniversary and a multitude of events will take place till August, 18 in honor of the city’s founding. Residents and visitors to Ekaterinburg are invited to watch a colorful air show performed by the pilot group "Strizhi", a festival of wind bands, sports performances and a gala concert which will feature the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games hits.

The successful International festival of wind bands will continue the musical celebrations in Ekaterinburg, bringing together musicians from cities across Russia, as well as Italy, the Netherlands and Kazakhstan. The headline event at the festival is the dancing orchestra directed by the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and Laureate of the Sverdlovsk Region, Alexander Pavlov.

The cultural festival continues with the event, bringing together visitors from all corners of the world to learn about the national arts of Russia. This event reestablishes the idea that art, especially music, is not defined by geographic or cultural borders.

Festival visitors interested in extreme sports can look forward to adrenalin-filled performances by unforgettable experiences and incredible somersaults.

The culmination event of the Day of the City will be the gala concert "Happy Birthday Ekaterinburg!" taking place on August 17 in the main town square. A stage will be built specifically for the jubilee and all performances will be broadcast on large screens.

The Day of the City celebrations in Ekaterinburg will conclude with a spectacular air show performed by the pilot group "Strizhki" and other well-known air stunt teams. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch these professional air stunts, a truly memorable experience.

In September, the Day of the City Relay will take place in Kursk, Voronezh and Yakutsk as part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad.
