(ATR) Ranked number one and two respectively, Egypt and Namibia will compete in the archery mixed team finals at the 2019 African Games on Friday in Rabat, Morocco.
The winner of Friday’s final will qualify two quota places for Tokyo 2020. In total, there are six Olympic archery quota places available in Rabat 2019.
Men’s top seed Youssof Tolba and Reem Mansour make up the Egyptian team while the women’s number one qualifier Quin Redding and Adrian Grobler represent Namibia.
Both Tolba and Redding competed in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
Egypt defeated Tunisia 6-2, and Chad 5-1 to reach the final.
Namibia defeated South Africa 5-1 and Cote d’Ivoire 6-2 to make the gold medal match.
On Thursday, individual eliminations will take place and finals will take place Friday.
The remaining four spaces for Tokyo 2020 will be assigned to countries with highest individual finishers that have not qualified in mixed team competitions.
Egypt will compete in three gold medal matches. In addition to the mixed team event, Egypt will compete in the men’s and women’s team finals.
For recurve men’s team gold medal match, Egypt will compete against Tunisia while in the recurve women’s they will face Cote d’Ivoire.
Currently Egypt is leading the African Games with 188 medals, 63 of which are gold.
The Games include 7,000 athletes from all 54 African countries competing in 26 sports.
Fifteen disciplines will serve as Olympic qualifiers.
