(ATR) Puerto Rico secures highest ranking during the opening round of the men’s bowling doubles competition at the Pan American Games in Lima.
The VIDENA, the national sports village in Peru, is the venue for the bowling. It is home to a total of eight venues for Lima 2019, including athletics, swimming, judo, squash, handball and cycling..
Following Puerto Rico, the United States claimed second place with Mexico in third.
With a total of 2919 points, Puerto Rico’s Cristian Azcona and Jean Perez continued to excite the full house of fans eager to watch their next move. Azcona’s total average at just 1470 and Perez following close behind with 1449 make them contenders at the podium.
Host nation Peru ranks in ninth place out of 16 teams.
For the women’s doubles, the Dominican Republic leads with the United States currently in second.
Dominican Republic’s Astrid Valiente and Aumi Guerra rolled a total of 1317 and 1283 respectively as fans eagerly cheered them on in the crowd.
Bowling has been part of the Pan American program since 1991 in Havana. It’s also on the Asian Games program but is not in the Olympic Games.
On Saturday, fans and spectators will find out which countries will climb the podium in the doubles competition.
Sixteen countries are competing in both the men’s and women’s team event. The competition will conclude on July 30.
