(ATR) The renowned director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics, Zhang Yimou, will make a promotional film for the Beijing/Zhangjiakou bid for the 2022 Games.
Sports Features Communicationsalsosays thatif Beijing andZhangjiakou win the right to host the 2022 Olympics,Zhang will reprise his role directing the opening and closing ceremonies.
The news that Zhang would be assuming the promo film duties was leaked during a press conference for a Young Director Competition organized by China Movie Channel in Beijing last Thursday. Zhang reportedly said he would also like to find a young Chinese director to assist him on the Olympic promo.
Zhang's artistic direction during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Games received international acclaim. That same year, Yimou was runner-up forTime Magazine'sPerson of the Year award.
In 2002, Zhang's film "Hero" was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
Beijing and Zhangjiakou are vying against Oslo and Almaty, Kazakhstan to host the 2022 Olympics.
The IOC will choose a host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics on July 31, 2015 at the 127th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
