First vice-president of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees (UANOC) Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa recently chaired the committees’ extraordinary General Assembly meeting held in Amman.
Shaikh Isa was joined at the meeting by Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and committee sports advisor Abduljalil Asad.
The meeting discussed a number of subjects on its agenda in an attempt to develop sports in the Arab region, as Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was voted new President of the UANOC, replacing the outgoing President Prince Talal bin Bader Al Saud.
The new strategic plan submitted by a group of experienced Arab sports officials, headed by Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif of the UAE, is tasked at setting up a comprehensive plan to boost sports and programmes of the union in regards to organizing sports competitions.
It also targets a massive development in the fields of administration, media, marketing, as well a plan to establish an Arab Olympic Academy.
Among other issues reviewed include changing the union’s official title and its logo, as a new logo will be designed to suit the conditions and criteria that will be decided later.
UAE Olympic Committee representative Nada Askar made a presentation on the preparations for the Arab Women’s Clubs Games that will be held in Sharjah in 2016.
