(ATR) The iconic Club de Regatas do Flamengo will be a hot spot for Olympians in Rio as the World Olympians Association (WOA) has joined forces with Ernst and Young (EY) to host the 2016 Olympians Reunion Center.
Situated on the shores of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, the multi-purpose venue will certainly offer Olympians of all ages a fulfilling Rio experience, while a busy program of Olympic family events will ensure a vibrant atmosphere throughout the Games.
"I'm very proud with what this team has achieved with the fantastic Reunion Center we are putting together in Rio with the help of EY," WOA president Joel Bouzou told Around the Rings, following the announcement at the SportAccord Convention in Lausanne.
Bouzou and the WOA are cooperating with two-time Olympic diving gold medalist Donna de Varona. Also a member of the IOC women and sport commission, de Varona is the leading advisor for the EY initiative Women Athletes Business Network, which seeks to highlight the connection between sport and leadership for women.
It's a perfect match-up for EY to partner with the World Olympians Association to honor Olympians in Rio," de Varona said.
Enthusiasm surrounding the 2016 Olympians Reunion Center should be even greater considering there was not one in London 2012.
Also adding to the excitement and entertainment, the WOA and EY will host an Olympic Gala evening on August 10 to honor some of the world’s most accomplished women in sport. One of the highlights on the Olympian Reunion Center schedule, the high-profile gathering will pay tribute to the impact the Olympic Movement has had on empowering women and championing equality.
Bringing together Olympians, International Olympic Committee members and prominent female business leaders, the event will showcase the achievements of accomplished women in sport and the power to unlock the potential of women worldwide.
"The athletes are the treasure of the movement and it's exciting to see the IOC partner with the World Olympians Association," de Varona said.
According to Bouzou, there are currently 100,000 living Olympians worldwide.
Bouzou added: "The Olympians are the soul of the Olympic Movement and the IOC has recognized the work that has been done."
