Today, 18 April, the world celebrates 100 days to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

This summer the British capital will play host to the Olympic Games for the third time in history. From 27 July to 12 August, London will welcome 10,500 athletes representing 204 National Olympic Committees for the 27th edition of the Summer Olympic Games. More than nine million tickets have already been sold to spectators around the world.

The 2012 Games are hugely significant for the FEI as they mark the centenary of equestrian sports on the Olympic programme. All 41 National Olympic Committees qualified by the 1 March deadline have confirmed their participation. Two hundred riders and horses will be competing in Jumping, Dressage and Eventing at Greenwich Park, the iconic venue for the equestrian events at the heart of the Games.

The next major date in the calendar is 17 June, which marks the end of the qualification period for athletes to achieve the required minimum eligibility standards. Definite entries for all three disciplines will be announced on 9 July.

Celebrations will continue throughout the week on the FEI’s social media platforms. Visit us on Facebook and Twitter and join in the Olympic-themed activities to mark the occasion and pay tribute to past and future equestrian heroes.
