Confederations Cup 2013: World Football INSIDER Covers "Festival of Champions"

(Atlanta)– Saturday marks the official kick-off of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, and World Football INSIDER will report on all the events and issues surrounding the two-week tournament.

The so-called "Festival of Champions" is the unofficial prelude to the FIFA World Cup next year.

World Football INSIDER will report on all events regarding the Confederations Cup while gauging Brazil’s preparations for the 2014 World Cup. One of the biggest discussions will concern Brazil’s potential as host nation for major sporting events.

"This is Brazil’s opportunity to show the world that it is prepared to host not only the Confederations Cup and World Cup, but also the 2016 Summer Olympic Games," said WFI publisher Sheila Scott Hula.

WFI will follow each match: identifying all key players and plays, stadium statistics, and any unexpected happenings during the tournament. Daily updates will be shared across WFI’s twitter, Facebook, and YouTube pages. These match reports will include pictures and videos documenting the significant moments of each match.

The Confederations Cup will take place from June 15 to 30 at stadiums in Brazil’s six host cities: Fortaleza, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, and Recife. Eight teams have qualified for the tournament: Brazil, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Uruguay, Tahiti, Italy, and Nigeria.

The Confederations Cup began as the King Fahd Cup, hosted by Saudi Arabia in 1992 as a tournament for each of the six confederation champions, the current World Cup holder, and the host nation. The name was changed to the Confederations Cup in 1997. It is held every four years, one year prior to the FIFA World Cup.
