China edges out Russia atop the Youth Olympic Games medal count.
China has 42 total medals, with 24 gold after eight days of competition at the inaugural YOG in Singapore.
Russia is in second with 39 total medals and 16 gold, and Ukraine is third with 25 total medals and eight gold.
Seventy-nine countries have at least one medal.
Host nation Singapore has two bronze and one silver.
