CHICAGO (July 20, 2009) Chicago 2016 announced today that Lollapalooza has named one of its two Presenting Stages the Chicago 2016 Stage in an effort to support the citys bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Lollapalooza will be held on August 7-9 in Grant Park along Chicagos lakefront and in the heart of city.
We are excited to be a part of such a large music festival in Chicago and honored to have one of the main stages named after our bid, said Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan. Grant Park is an ideal location for events and that is why it is a central part of our plan to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Grant Park, with its vast green space and renowned landmarks such as Buckingham Fountain, has hosted an array of world-famous figures from Pope John Paul II, to the victorious Chicago Bulls, to recently elected president Barack Obama. During the Games, Grant Park will be the setting for the archery competitions, the start of the marathon and one of the main Olympic celebration sites.
Last year, Chicago 2016 was on-site at Lollapalooza building awareness for the bid with information kiosks, as well as recruiting volunteers for events to promote the bid.
As a part of the Chicago community, we felt it was important to elevate the presence of Chicago 2016 at Lollapalooza, and there is no better way to show our support than naming rights to one of our premier stages, said C3 Presents Charlie Jones, Executive Producer of Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza and C3 Presents want to help keep the bid front and center, and do our part to help bring the 2016 Games to Chicago.
