TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2011 /CNW/ - Ian Troop, Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015), today announced a comprehensive four-year partnership agreement with Chevrolet Canada, making Chevrolet a Premier Partner and the exclusive automotive partner of the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games.
"Chevrolet shares our vision to create a better Ontario," said Troop. "A focus on families, combined with a wealth of transportation experience and a reliable track record at multi-sport games, makes Chevrolet an ideal partner for the Toronto 2015 Games."
Greater Golden Horseshoe area athletes including Taylor Paris and Tyler Ardron (2011 Pan American gold medallists, rugby sevens), Jason Burnett(2008 Olympic silver medallist, trampoline) and Summer Mortimer (world record holder, para-swimming) were on hand for an event at the TO2015 head office celebrating the announcement.
"The partnership with the Pan/Parapan Am Games allows Chevrolet to be part of an event that will inspire and engage a generation of Canadians," said Kevin W. Williams, President and Managing Director, General Motors of Canada. "This major commitment is a natural extension of Chevrolet's long history of supporting Canadian athletes, from novice players experiencing the sport for the first time to elite athletes competing at the international level."
As the official vehicle partner of the Games, Chevrolet is providing 1,000 vehicles- sedans, passenger vans, SUVs and trucks-to be used by organizers and volunteers leading up to and during the Games. The sustainable fleet will include electric vehicles with extended range, hybrids, vehicles with eAssist technologies and flex fuel-capable vehicles. The majority of the 1,000 vehicles supplied will have one or more of these advanced green technologies which are on the road today helping Chevrolet customers reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
"The Government of Canada is once again very pleased to see corporate Canada step up and support the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games," said the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport). "Chevrolet Canada's sponsorship of these Games will ensure their success and make them a memorable sport event for all participants, spectators and visitors."
Chevrolet will also bring an important 'team behind the team' with 157 dealers in Ontario and 52 dealers in the Games' communities. Chevrolet dealers will play an important role in bringing the Games to their communities, creating awareness and supporting local celebrations across the province.
"The support of corporate Canada will help drive the success of the 2015 Games," said Charles Sousa, Ontario's Minister responsible for the Pan/Parapan Am Games. "Chevrolet will be a valuable partner in leveraging the Games to boost local economies and create new jobs for Ontario families."
The Greater Toronto Area represents North America's fifth largest media market. The Toronto 2015 Games also present opportunities for camera-visible signage in venues and an audience spanning the Caribbean and North, Central and South America.
"By coming on board as the Premier Partner, Chevrolet is demonstrating the importance of corporate and civic leadership to ensure that the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games are a success," said City of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. "I welcome today's announcement and the City looks forward to working in partnership with Chevrolet and T02015 as we prepare for the Games."
In addition to playing an integral role in transporting athletes and officials, Chevrolet is committed to supporting the volunteers who will contribute their time, effort and care to ensure that every spectator, visitor and athlete has the best possible Pan/Parapan Am Games experience.
"Chevrolet has a wealth of experience as a logistical and transportation partner at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, so we at the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee are looking forward to working with Chevrolet to host the greatest Pan/Parapan American Games ever, " added Troop. "The Chevrolet Volt will play a very important role in transporting our athletes and officials, and in helping us connect the 17 Greater Golden Horseshoe communities that will be hosting these Games."
