July 15, 2015 – Canadians have caught Pan Am fever and are demanding more. CBC listened. Today, the national public broadcaster announced 12 additional hours of TV broadcast coverage for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games, allowing for extended coverage of the events made available by the Organizing Committee, TORONTO 2015.
Beginning today and continuing through the rest of the Pan Am Games, Pan Am Afternoon with host Andi Petrillo will expand to a three-hour program each weekday from 2-5 p.m. local time across Canada. In addition, CBC’s weekend programming will be augmented with an additional hour of prime time coverage on Sunday, July 19 which will see the broadcast begin at 7 p.m. local time, and another three hours on Saturday, July 25, with afternoon coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) and prime time coverage extended to 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. PT).
CBC is committed to providing audiences with as much sports coverage as is made available by TORONTO 2015. To that end, all medal moments have been and will continue to be carried on TV, online at cbc.ca/panam, and via the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android, or via highlight clips made available through the host broadcaster. The sports made available live to CBC by TORONTO 2015 include Cycling (Track); Gymnastics (Artistic); Athletics (excluding road races); Diving; Synchronized Swimming; Swimming; Equestrian (Show Jumping); Volleyball; Beach Volleyball; Boxing; Soccer; Judo; Wrestling; Taekwondo; Karate; Basketball; as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.
The Pan Am/Parapan Am Games is the world’s third-largest international multi-sport games and Toronto 2015 will be the largest multi-sport games ever held on Canadian soil. In keeping with the magnitude of the event, CBC/Radio-Canada will broadcast nearly 750 hours of coverage over the course of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games across TV, online and mobile platforms. This year’s event marks the first time that the Parapan Am Games will be televised in English and French in Canada.
