November 27, 2013 – In celebration of the 100-day countdown to the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) announced earlier today the formation of a broadcast consortium that will provide the most comprehensive broadcast and online coverage ever in Canada for a Paralympic Games.
"Bringing the drama and thrills of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games to every single Canadian is extremely important to CBC," said Jennifer Dettman, executive director, studio and unscripted content. "We know Canadians of all ages and abilities will watch these Games and be motivated and inspired by the athleticism and stories of athletes on the Canadian Paralympic Team."
As a member of the CPC’s consortium, CBC/Radio-Canada will produce 30 broadcast hours of coverage from Sochi as well as extensive digital streaming coverage. In addition, Sportsnet (through an agreement with CBC) will carry broadcast content as well, extending the reach across their properties. The CPC’s media consortium also includes AMI, Yahoo Sports and SendtoNews, who will provide additional coverage.
CBC/Radio-Canada will provide coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in English and French, as well as pre-prime, late-night encore, and weekend coverage in English, and an additional seven hours of French-language coverage throughout the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from March 7-16, 2014.
Additionally, CBC News Network, local CBC News programs and CBC Radio will provide updates on the latest news and results from Sochi throughout each day of competition from Sochi.
