Canoe Slalom to Deodoro
The canoe slalom course will remain in the Deodoro Sports Complex as originally planned.
Organizers had looked to upgrading the Foz do Iguaçu Park in Paraná to reduce costs, but ultimately organizers decided it was best to keep the course within the city.
The International Canoe Federation, along with the Brazil Canoe Federation, worked with the Rio organizing committee to plan the venue and its post-Olympics use.
Foz do Iguaçu is located 1,473 km from Rio de Janeiro. High costs and upgrades proved too costly to be a viable option.
The new canoe slalom venue will be located in the Deodoro X-Park. Canoe slalom is one of eleven disciplines to take place in the Deodoro.
Details about the venue’s cost were not provided and will be released by the Rio government soon.
