(ATR) Canada and the United States have 64 and 60 medals respectively going into Wednesday’s events in Toronto.
Two countries are tied for third as Cuba and Brazil each have 41 medals, 19 medals behind the second place United States.
Canada seeks to add to their lead with potential medals in the individual events for gymnastics that take place this afternoon. Ellie Black took the gold in the all-around competition on Monday and will compete in the floor event later today.
Samuel Mikulak of the U.S. won gold in the men’s all-around on Monday and will aim to add medals in the horizontal and parallel bars events Wednesday. The artistic gymnastics competition will conclude following the horizontal bar event Wednesday afternoon.
The rowing competition will also finish up this morning with the final event the men’s eight. Men’s water polo also wraps up Wednesday evening with the gold medal match between the U.S. and Brazil.
Swimming continues Wednesday with the 200 meter races in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and men’s 4x200 meter relay.
Athletes in men’s tennis will compete for the first tennis medals of the Pan Ams and begin the day’s action with the singles gold medal match between Argentina and Columbia. The doubles teams will compete for gold later in the afternoon.
The wrestling competition begins Wednesday afternoon and athletes will aim for the first wrestling medals of the games in the evening.
Competitors in weightlifting will wrap up competition Wednesday with the final events in men’s 105 and +105 kg divisions as well as the women’s +75 kg division.
