Building work on the Media Village for the 2014 Sochi Games began this week in Krasnaya Polyana, with the ceremonial laying of the first stone. The development is being financed by Sberbank, a General Partner of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
The Olympic Media Village is part of the infrastructure of the mountain cluster, one of two clusters aroundwhich all Sochi’s Olympic developments are grouped.
The Media Village will be able to accommodate more than two thousand journalists from across the world, who will cover the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The media centre, which will include a press conference suite, studios and offices for media representatives, will also be located here.
"Generating the widest possible coverage of the event’s progress is a key goal for us," said Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko. "We are striving for Sochi 2014 to become a symbol of Russia’s openness to the entire world. We will be glad to welcome all journalists from all over the world to watch as events unfold in Sochi".
Like all Sochi 2014 developments, the Media Village will be built according to "green" standards, using environmentally-friendly building materials and will incorporate energy- and resource-saving technology. After the 2014 Winter Games, the village will become one of the centres of sporting and cultural life in the surrounding holiday resort of Sochi. It will become a pedestrianised town, which will also have an Orthodox church, a Museum of Modern History and a scale model of ancient Olympia.
Other Sochi 2014 General Partners include: Aeroflot, MegaFon, Rostelekom, Rosneft, Sberbank, VOLKSWAGEN Group Rus and BoscoSPORT. Ingosstrakh is also a Sochi 2014 Partner company.
IOC Worldwide Partners who have signed contracts for the 2014 Games in Sochi include: CocaCola, Atos Origin, Dow Chemical, Omega, Panasonic, Procter and Gamble, Samsung and Visa.
