Boston 2024 Visit IOC Headquarters as Part of New "Invitation Phase"

A high-level Boston 2024 delegation, led by newly appointed Boston 2024 Chair, Steve Pagliuca, visited the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne today to take advantage of the new "Invitation Phase" and learn more from the IOC about the bid process and how to deliver the best possible plan for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

All three major stakeholders of Boston 2024 – the bid committee, the USOC and the City of Boston – were represented in Lausanne during the meetings. Steve Pagliuca, led the Boston 2024 delegation which included Boston 2024 Vice-Chair Roger Crandall; Boston 2024 CEO Richard Davey; Boston 2024 Senior Adviser & Chief Games Officer Doug Arnot; Boston 2024 Chief Marketing Officer Christa Carone; Boston 2024 General Counsel Paige Scott Reed; and Boston 2024 COO & Chief Bid Officer Erin Murphy Rafferty. The bid was supported by USOC Chairman and IOC member Larry Probst III; IOC member from the USA Angela Ruggiero; USOC CEO Scott Blackmun; USOC Chief of Bids & Protocol Chris Sullivan; USOC Chief Communications & Public Affairs Officer Patrick Sandusky; and John Fitzgerald, Director of Olympic Operations for the City of Boston Redevelopment Authority who attended on behalf of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

In the morning, the delegation visited the Olympic Museum before heading to the Olympic Headquarters for a series of meetings attended by, amongst others, Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi; and Head of Bid City Relations Jacqueline Barrett. The new "Invitation Phase", which comes as part of the Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms, provided the delegation with the chance to learn more about the bid process and how Olympic Agenda 2020 can help them to deliver a Games for the athletes which fit in with the city’s overall long-term planning. The meeting adds to the growing sense of momentum in Boston’s bid following the broadening of expertise in Boston 2024’s leadership support and the imminent completion of the next phase of the Games Concept which will be released at the end of June.

Speaking after the meeting, USOC Chairman and IOC member Larry Probst III said:

The new Invitation Phase is a well-conceived initiative of President Thomas Bach which allows us to tap into the vast experience and expertise of the IOC."

Boston 2024 Chairman Steve Pagliuca said:
