Tokyo 2020 Assesses Bid Strategy
A revamp of Tokyo 2020's bid strategy may emerge from two key meetings in the Japanese capital Friday.
The second Tokyo 2020 Council meeting takes place, while a strategic meeting with all National Sports Federations is also scheduled that day.
The council is the top advisory board to the Japanese bid and includes government figures and leaders from Japan’s business and sporting communities. Prime minister of Japan, Yoshihiko Noda, is the chief advisor. The council's membership has now grown to 90 members.
Tokyo 2020 already received the unanimous backing of the national federations in February. A total of 118 federations are invited to Friday's event, including not summer and winter Olympic sports and non-Olympic bodies.
"Understanding how the power of sport matters to our society and how the power of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is needed in Japan in this moment to inspire worldwide's youth, Tokyo 2020 and Japan's sport communities are extremely passionate about the bid," a Tokyo 2020 spokesman told ATR.
"The strategic meeting with the national sports federations will become another stepping stone to further enhance the bid's activities."
