PyeongChang, Annecy Media Consultants
Vero Communications, the London-based agency which most recently advised The Rio de Janeiro bid for 2016 is now working with PyeongChang 2018. Vero is led by Mike Lee, veteran sports media relations expert who started the firm after helping with London’s bid for 2012. The world’s second-biggest communications and advertising firm, Paris-based Havas, will aid the bid from Annecy in the French Alps. Alexandra Russel-Felli of Havas Entertainment & Sport will be international media relations chief for the bid.
Already on board for Munich 2018 is Jon Tibbs and Associates. Tibbs worked on the Tokyo bid for 2016 and Sochi’s successful campaign for 2014.
Munich Support at 88%
A new survey for Munich 2018 shows that national support for the bid has reached 88 percent.
The poll indicated that 87 percent of those surveyed said they support companies that sponsor the bid.
Research firm Ipsos conducted the survey among 3,000 residents of Germany.
“This is a very pleasing survey for Munich 2018 at such an early stage of our campaign,” says CEO Willy Bogner.
“However, there is a long way to go and we will work hard to continue explaining the major benefits of the Games to the people of Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria and all of Germany so that we can continue to enjoy this excellent support,” he said.
PyeongChang HostsYouthof Snow-Free World
The 7th edition of the Dream Program is set to begin in PyeongChang, South Korea. Aimed at introducing winter sports to young people from countries which don’t experience snow and ice, the Dream Program will draw 114 participants from 29 countries.
For the first time, youths from the United Arab Emirates, Oman and St. Lucia will take part.
The newly built Alpensia Resort in PyeongChang will host the group, Jan.21-30.
“The Dream Program is an illustration of PyeongChang’s commitment to foster the growth of winter sports internationally and in so doing, contribute to the goals of the Olympic Movement,” says Gangwon Province governor Jin Sun Kim, who is also co-chair of the 2018 Winter bid.
The Dream Program was launched in 2004 after its first bid for the Winter Olympics (2010) as a way to promote winter sports in Korea and around the world.
