(ATR) Organizers of the inaugural European Games are frantically finishing preparations for the event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Simon Clegg, chief operation officer for Baku 2015, told reporters that organizers are hoping to create a "big bang" in June with the inaugural multi-sports event.
The 2015 European Games are set to take place June 12-28.
Around the RingsEuropean editor Mark Bisson says aside from speeding up construction at the European Games Park, Baku 2015 needs to use the next 56 days to enhance its brand.
"They need to raise the profile of the Games beyond the borders of Azerbaijan," Bisson says.
"This is the first event of its type. They have to lay a benchmark here, a blueprint for future Games."
European Olympic Committees president Pat Hickey will be in Baku next week for the lighting of the torch before its relay around 51 cities nationwide. EOC evaluation commission chair Spyros Capralos will also be involved.
