Bahrain NOC partners with British Embassy

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief executive officer Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa expressed pride for the distinctive partnership with the British Embassy in Bahrain and the joint co-ordination in organizing several sports activities.

This came during his meeting with British deputy ambassador to Bahrain Russ Dixon. Shaikh Khalid conveyed the greetings of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He recalled the tremendous success of the UK in hosting the 2012 Olympic Games last summer, which has become one of the most memorable Olympics in terms of organization and also technically.

Shaikh Khalid said he was pleased to see the BOC work together with the British Embassy to organize the mini Olympics that was held in Bahrain, with a group of private sector taking part to promote London Olympics.

Shaikh Khalid emphasized the Olympic committee’s willingness to co-ordinate once again with the embassy in any sporting event that aims to deliver noble message to different segments of the Bahrain society.

On his part, Dixon conveyed the greetings of the British Ambassador to Shaikh Nasser, praising the developed steps witnessed by sports in Bahrain in Shaikh Nasser’s era, which resulted in Bahrain winning their first-ever Olympic medal through sprinter Maryam Jamal, who clinched the women’s 1,500m bronze medal at the London Olympics.

Dixon also paid tribute to the efforts of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, represented in its executive management that was able to consolidate relations with various parties in the Kingdom, expressing delight for the march of joint cooperation between the BOC and the British Embassy and looked forward to further joint activities between the two sides.

He pointed the effectiveness with which the embassy intends to organise next June to coincide with the Olympic day celebrations, through which it will present the hard-won gains of Great Britain by hosting the 2012 London Olympics.

The meeting was also attended by director of programs at the British embassy Heba Al Khlafawi and Fajer Jassim from the BOC Corporate Communication Directorate.
