Bahrain Bowling Team Receives Honorable Finishes at AIMAG

BAHRAIN’s national bowling team yesterday (JULY 5) signed off with honourable finishes in the Fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), being held at Incheon, in South Korea.

On the penultimate day of this eight-day Games, the Bahrainis had their final act in the men's and women's team of four bowling event, which took place at Anyang Hogye Gymnasium.

In the men's section, Bahrain maintained their form from the first block last Thursday to secure 16th place among 20 entrants after playing the remaining three of this six-game contest.

The men’s team of Ahmed Al Goud, Masood Saberi, Taha Ebrahim and Isa Abduljabbar teamed up against some of the continent’s best bowlers in the second and final block, where they could score a combined total of 3,518 points.

Topping the preliminary stage were the Koreans, followed by the UAE, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, China, the Philippines, an Independent Olympic Athletes (IOA), Thailand, Qatar, Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Macao.

The nationals finished the competition ahead of Oman, Mongolia, Iran and Pakistan, who occupied positions from 17 to 20, respectively.

Early on, the women’s team of four preliminary round also took place as Bahrain’s team of Noora Al Janahi, Majeda Saleh, Layla Al Janahi and Fatema Ali faced another daunting challenge.

Playing three games in the first block against 13 other teams from Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, China, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Kuwait and Mongolia, the Bahrainis could claim 13th place with a combined total of 3,474 points.

Bahrain’s best moments in the bowling event was marked by up-and-coming star Ahmed Al Goud, who got off the mark with 249 in his opening game to lead Hui Xun Saw of Singapore by 2 pins in the first group of round one in the men's singles.

Malaysia’s Chern Tan Chye was in third with 238 after the first game. Korea’s Cho Young-seon was in eighth position with 212.

In the preliminary rounds, players are divided into two groups for six games. The top eight finishers advance to the quarter finals scheduled for Sunday evening. The finals will also be held on Sunday night.

Bahrain also sent teams competing in billiards and swimming. In billiards, Bahraini men's and women's took part in a variety of events, including Nine-Ball and 10-Ball singles and team sections.

Women's cueists Jomeya Al Doseri, Fatema Yusuf Rajab, Nahla Al Sunni and May Al Doseri all had their chances to explore their skills during their respective matches, which took place at Songdo Convensia at Incheon.

In the men's section, Bahrain were spearheaded by Ali Hassan, Saleh Ahmed, Ali Mohammed and Abdulla Isa.

Bahrain was represented by two swimmers at the Games.

Farhan Faraj and Sameera Al Bitar had already returned home earlier this week along with coach Khalid Ahmed after successfully setting up new personal records in their 50m and 100m freestyle events that were held at Dowon Aquatics Center.

The Games is set to conclude today at 1pm (Bahrain time) with the closing ceremony, to be held under the patronage of the Olympic Council of Asia President Shaikh Ahmed Al Fahad Al Sabah of Kuwait.
