Austrian Federal Criminal Police Force Finalize Multi-Faceted MOC With Sportradar

Following a number of close collaborations between the Austrian Federal Police Force and Sportradar in the last 12 months, the Bundeskriminalamt (.BK) of the Ministry of the Interior (BM.I) have decided to finalise a Memorandum of Cooperation with the market leader in fraud detection and prevention.

Having worked closely on the recent match-fixing case which saw an Austrian international player sentenced to five years in prison and seven others face long prison time, the .BK then took up Sportradar’s offer to join an Austrian delegation at the company’s London office and complete a one-day Law Enforcement Training module. This module was based on Sportradar’s decade long experience as leaders in match manipulation monitoring and intelligence, as well as the company’s unprecedented understanding of the global sports betting market.

Speaking about the MoC, Andreas Holzer, Head of Organised Crime Bureau of the .BK had this to say: "Match-fixing of today is a very different activity from the match-fixing of the past. Organised crime and sophisticated gaming of the international betting market are the hallmark of contemporary match manipulators. In Austria, we have been vigilant; we have been proactive; and we will remain so. To support us as we remain committed to preventing and catching fixers, we have brought Sportradar on board to ensure that we keep our fingers on the pulse. Their expertise and intelligence has been, and will remain, invaluable as we protect the integrity of sport in our country"

Sportradar Managing Director Integrity and Strategy Andreas Krannich also praised the MoC: "In many ways, law enforcement agencies and police forces hold the keys to unlocking and sanctioning those masterminding match fixes. They have the power, the jurisdiction, the resources and the tools at their disposal. We have long been encouraging sports rights holders to open up channels of communication with their relevant law enforcement agencies. So here we have an example of a proactive, interested and invested police force that is looking to get the best view on the market and is keen to keep its understanding up to date and sharp. We are really looking forward to our work going forward and working in tandem to support Austrian sport".
