(ATR) The Asian Winter Games (AWG) kicked off in Sapporo, Japan on Feb. 19 with an opening ceremony at the Sapporo Dome.

The games officially opened on Feb.19 but the curling and ice hockey tournaments were already underway. The snowboarding events kicked off the first official day of competition.

The Mikaho gymnasium is one of the venues hosting the ice hockey competitions. The Makomanai skating rink is home to short track events and the Hokkaido Bank Curling Stadiumwill hold all curling competitions.

The 2017 edition of the AWG marks the third time that Sapporo is serving as host.The AWG will conclude on Feb. 26.
