(ATR) A migration policy expert tells Around the Rings there is a risk of athletes overstaying their visas in PyeongChang.
"Overstaying of athletes has always been an issue in every Olympics, and I think that South Korea will not be an exception," Dovelyn Agunias of the Migration Policy Institute told ATR by email.
"South Korea is a prime destination for migrant workers in the region."
After the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, seven athletes disappeared from their teams and have stayed in South Korea after their visas expired.
This was down from the sixteen athletes that disappeared after the 2002 Asian Games in Busan.
The London 2012 Olympics had seven Cameroonian athletes disappear from the Olympic Village, as well as four members of the Congolese delegation.
