ASOIF mourns passing of Bruno Grandi

Lausanne, 13 September 2019

ASOIF is saddened to learn of the passing of our former Council member, International Olympic Committee Member and President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Bruno Grandi. His long service on the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) was also of great value and illustrates the breadth and depth of his work in international sport over many years. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Bruno made a significant contribution to the development of FIG in his years as its president and this was recognised by FIG’s promotion alongside the International Swimming Federation (FINA) to join the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as the biggest three contributing International Federations to the Summer Olympic programme. He will be remembered by ASOIF and its members as a wise leader in sport, a great administrator for gymnastics and a central figure as a Council member of ASOIF where he provided sound advice on many occasions and always with good humour.

ASOIF President, Francesco Ricci Bitti recalls a great friend and colleague of the International Federations when he says "we will greatly miss his wise words and advice while remembering his warmth, friendship and kindness".
