Asian Indoor Games

Bahrain’s delegation to the Fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), set to take place in Incheon, in South Korea, will be traveling to the far East today (JUNE 25).

The eight-day Games are scheduled to tip off on Saturday (June 29) and provides a large-scale regional competitive arena for a wide range of categories such as Muay Thai, dance sport, billiards, futsal and electronic gaming over 100 events.

Bahrain will be spearheaded by 29 athletes in three sporting disciplines – billiards, bowling and swimming. Bahrain Olympic Committee sports Affairs executive director Noaman Al Hassan is leading the Bahrain delegation to Korea.

In billiards, the nationals will make up two teams in the billiards events. The men’s team consists of Ali Hassan, Saleh Ahmed, Ali Mohammed and Abdulla Isa.

The women’s team includes Jumeya Al Doseri, Nahla Al Sunni, Fatma Yousuf and May Al Doseri. The teams will be traveling along with Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Federation member Hussain Bukhammas.

In bowling, Bahrain is sending eight of its best players, namely Masood Saberi, Ahmed Al Goud, Isa Abduljabbar and Taha Ebrahim who are lined up in the men’s division.

The remaining four bowlers – Fatema Khalid, Noora Al Janahi, Majda Taher and Layla Janahi are scheduled to compete in the women’s section. The bowling teams will be headed by Bahrain Bowling Association president Abdulla Al Dossary.

Two of Bahrain’s finest swimmers will be representing their nation in the Games. Promising junior Farhan Saleh Faraj is due to compete in the men’s 50m, 100m and 200m style events, while 23-year-old Sameera Al Bitar will participate in the women’s 50m and 100m freestyle contests, as well in the 50m breaststroke. They are traveling along with their manager Khalid Ahmed.

Meanwhile, the administrative team to the Games had left Bahrain earlier this week, with Saud Al Ghenaim being the delegation director.

The team, which also includes assistant director Hamad Al Baker and treasurer Mahmood Ashoori, arrived in Incheon to finalise the delegation members’ registration process and securing the accommodation.

The Games will be the first OCA Games to combine the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Martial Arts Games. Featuring nine sports, the Fourth AIMAG will be a high-profile test event for the 17th Asian Games in Incheon the following year.

Nine venues will be specially prepared for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, along with an Athletes’ Village and planned recruitment of 3,000 volunteers for the event.

Venues include seven existing and two new for swimming and futsal, besides five for training. The opening and closing ceremonies will both take place at Samsan World Gymnasium.
