On Friday June 25th, a few days after the International Olympic Committee put Annecy on the candidate city list for the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the bid committee and staff, athletes, partners and mayors were invited by the French Prime Minister, François Fillon to a reception at Matignon.

At the Prime Minister’s headquarters, in the presence of Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Health and Sports, Rama Yade, Sports Secretary of State, Bernard Accoyer, President of the National Assembly, and other French government members, the Prime Minister congratulated the committee for the new status of "candidate city" and restated the governments unconditional support of the bid.

The chief of governent, François Fillon, recalled the solidarity of the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, and encouraged the committee to increase their efforts so that the French project would reach the IOC’s expectations and demonstrate even greater Olympic excellence.

"We accept this challenge with much pride", said Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018 and Olympic Champion. "We are confident in the number of exceptional venues our region has to offer and will soon present a new project concentrating the sites. We have a great project and a team that will make it happen! "

"We have our government backing us and also an incredible support from the general public. Only last Wednesday, over 30,000 people joined us on the edge of lake Annecy to celebrate the Candidate City status. All this positive energy will boost our bid and send us sailing down the home stretch and over the finish line!"
