The Italian basketball player interviewed by a group of young athletes.
"The Rome 2024 Olympics? I’ll be too old, they belong to you". Andrea Bargnani, born in 1985, basketball player of the Italian national team, is the protagonist of the Rome 2024 Committee’s new video and answers to the special interviewers that surround him: a group of young basketball and wheelchair basketball players between 8 and 12 years old.
The former Brooklyn Nets player chose Rome’s Eurobasket training center to prepare for the pre-Olympic tournament that will take place in Turin. He broke the news blackout only to answer to the questions of a group of special young 'colleagues'. "What’s your mood before a game?", "What about the best slam dunk you’ve ever done?" "What are the differences between American and Italian basketball?". A barrage of questions allow Bargnani to retrace his career, from his experience at NBA to the future: the challenge of the pre-Olympic tournament with the Italian national team and the one in Rome for the 2024 Olympic Games. "For Turin we have to try to train as much as possible in the short time available – he explained - we must try our best but we’ll need some luck as well. The Rome 2024 Games are your opportunity".
The video featuring Bargnani is part of a collection of video interviews launched by the Roma 2024 Committee starting with former high jumper Sara Simeoni. Athletes and former athletes find themselves struggling with youngsters’ surprising questions in a metaphorical handover in which champions share their experiences with children to help them in their growth path as athletes.
The new generations are at the heart of the Rome 2024 Olympic project, starting from them we can build the future.
