Gold Coast primary and secondary students will commemorate Commonwealth Day 2016 at the Arts Centre Gold Coast on Monday (14 March).

The Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, will read The Queen’s Commonwealth Day Message to students from 112 schools participating in Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Gold Coast Schools Connect.

Commonwealth Day takes place annually on the second Monday in March. Each year, a theme for Commonwealth Day is identified by Her Majesty The Queen and assists in guiding activities by Commonwealth organisations throughout the year.

This year’s theme, An Inclusive Commonwealth, refers to the values of tolerance, respect and understanding and equity and fairness as set out in the Commonwealth Charter and the richness of the Commonwealth as a family of nations in which each member state is valued equally and has an equal voice.

Para-athlete, swimming world champion, Glasgow 2014 100m gold medallist and GC2018 Griffith University Sports Scholarship recipient Rowan Crothers will join His Excellency and the students on the day. The occasion will present excellent photo and interview opportunities.
