(ATR)The 2015 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival is underway in Vorarlberg, Austria andLiechtenstein. This marks the first time that two countries will host the event.
Pat Hickey, president of the European Olympic Committees, tellsAround the Ringsthat he feels two countries hosting the Winter EYOF reflects principles set forth by Olympic Agenda 2020.
One of the first recommendations of Agenda 2020 permits future Games to be hosted by two cities or two countries.IOC president Thomas Bach championed this reform to reduce the cost of the Games and to allow smaller countries to make a bid to host individual events.
Sports on the program for the Winter EYOF include alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboarding.
Hickey says the festival is running smoothly so far and that Prince Albert of Monaco is expected to arrive at the festival on Wednesday--his niece,Princess Alexandra of Hanover, is competing in figure skating.
