African Sport Leaders Look Back at CISA -- Monday Memo

(ATR) The ninth edition of the Africa International Sports Convention takes place March 11-15 in Kigali, Rwanda.

(ATR) The ninth edition of the Africa International Sports Convention (CISA) takes placeMarch 11-15 inKigali, Rwanda.

CISA will gather over 400 sporting leaders, decision-makers and athletes from across Africa and the rest of the world.

The line up for the convention includes: Mustapha Berraf, first vice-president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa; Ahmed Fouly, president of the Union of African Sports Confederations; Mustapha Larfaoui, honorary International Swimming Federation President; and Rodney Swigelaar, regional director for the World Anti-Doping Agency in Africa.

Around the Rings associate editor Nick Devlin will be in Kigali to cover the event.

PASO Executive Board

The Executive Board of the Pan American Sports Organization will meet March 9 in Mexico City, Mexico.

The meeting comes on the heels of a memorial forMario Vazquez Rana, who had been president of PASO since 1975 and was thefounding president of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

ATR's director ofbusiness development, Ed Hula III, was in attendance at Rana's memorial and is also attending the PASO Executive Board meeting on Monday.

World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

International Skating Union opens the 2015 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships on March 13 inMoscow, Russia.

Competition ends on March 15.

World Women's Curling Championship

The 2015 World Women's Curling Championship begin on March 14 inSapporo, Hokkaido (Japan).

The championship ends on March 22.

Biathlon World Championships

The 47th edition of the Biathlon World Championships is underway inKontiolahti, Finland.

This isKontiolahti's second time hosting the Biathlon World Championships, having hosted the event in 1999.

The International Biathlon Union is staging competition for the world championships at theKontiolahti Stadium, which has hosted several events in biathlon and cross-country skiing over the years.

Organizers predict over 300 athletes from more than 40 countries will participate in the 2015 Biathlon World Championships. Competition ends March 15.

Davis Cup

The International Tennis Federation opened the 2015 Davis Cup on March 6.

In total, 16 teams are participating in the 104th edition of the Davis Cup.

Switzerland are the defending champions. However, Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has reportedly said he will skip this year's tournament.

The ITF requires a player to compete in the Davis Cup for his country once in the season leading up to or in the Olympic year to be eligible to compete at the Games.

The tournament ends on Nov. 29.

Cricket World Cup

Ten matches will be played in the 2015 Cricket World Cup this week.

Jointly hosted this year by Australia and New Zealand, the event has gathered 14 teams from around the world. Overall, teams will play 49 matches in 14 venues.

India are the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2011. Competition ends March 29.
