About 2,000 rooms in hotels and hostels have been designated for tourists and fans during the 2nd European Games in Minsk. The Minsk city authorities and economic entities also signed a memorandum to cap hotel prices. Ahead and during the European Games prices shall not increase by more than 10% over the prices as of 1 June 2018 in USD terms at the exchange rate of the National Bank. All in all, there are 52 hotels and five hostels for 6,000 rooms that can accommodate about 10,000 guests. Some 31 hotels with 5,000 rooms have been designated for official client-groups of the European Games. The accommodation agreements have been signed with these hotels in line with the requirements of the European Olympic Committees. As previously reported, the average hotel rate was approximately $43.4 per room in 2018 as against $50-60 per room in 2015-2016. Since 2017, prices have remained roughly at the same level. The demand for accommodation is mainly generated by foreign tourists who account for about 78% of hotel customers in Minsk. Hotels are very popular during New Year holidays and May breaks. Multi-bed rooms are most popular among visitors during pre-holiday season and during holidays, while the demand for single rooms is declining.
