American rower to carry World Cup soccer balls across the Atlantic Ocean and ask soccer fans to join him.
New York City - Victor Mooney of Forest Hills, Queens will have a little company when he heads off from Las Palmas, Canary Islands and rows five thousand miles back to New York on World AIDS Day. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is sending him several soccer balls for his journey. The balls will symbolize hope and humanity. Upon arrival in New York, Mooney will pass the balls back to FIFA for their "Football for Hope" program.
"We congratulate you for your commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS as well as for your courageous sporting challenge", said Federico Addiechi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for FIFA.

Mooney plans a practice row soon from Rio de Janiero to Sao Paulo. "I'm humbled to carry these fubols across the Atlantic Ocean", said Mooney. "I just hope I don't end up talking to them", Mooney jokingly added.
